Major Subjects Undertaken During Yoga Teacher Training in Mysore, India

India Yogashala welcomes you to the beginning of true yoga immersion with traditional teachings of the most ancient form of yoga, the Hatha Yoga. The term Hatha Yoga in which ‘Ha’ literally translates to the ‘Sun’ and ‘Tha’ that translates to ‘Moon’ symbolize the Sun and Moon energies of the body that co-exist in us. During the Hatha Yoga immersion, we learn to cleanse and balance the Sun and the Moon nadis (channels) of the body. The teachings are imparted with references from Sivananda Yoga and Satyananda Yoga during which you perform and acquire perfection in the foundation asanas on which the science of Yoga is built. You acquire strength combined with the flexibility in your body and mind needed to complete your transition into a complete Yogi.

Ashtanga Vinyasa literally translates to the eight(Ashtanga) limbs(Vinyasa). During the Ashtanga Vinyasa immersion, we focus on synchronizing your breath with the asanas to perform a series of poses in continuous rhythm while gaining fluidity and motion. Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy shall be your core during the 200 Hour Yoga TTC in India during which we perfect the primary series of Ashtanga with the aim to acquire finesse in standing and sitting asanas along with the inversion poses. The teachings are based on the origin of Ashtanga Yoga, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

The essence of Yoga is incomplete without seeping into the layers behind the purpose of your practice. As we walk through the yogic way of life, we delve deeper into the philosophy of science to help build a staircase that resonates with your soul as a yogi on the verge of transformation. To facilitate this transition we undertake the following subjects:

  • The understanding of Yamas(What to do?) and Niyamas(What not to?)
  • The teachings of Dharma and Karma
  • Easy-to-understand translations to imbibe authentic learnings from the ancient texts such as Bhagavad Gita, the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga, and the Vedas.
  • Decipher the true meaning of Yoga Seva(service) and what Yoga truly holds.

Undergo complete purification of the energy channels and learn to navigate your breath to balance the emotions and to empower the mind. During the Pranayama classes, you will learn and undergo:

  • Cleansing of the energy channels (Nadi purification) through Sodhana, Kapalbhati, Sheetkari, Baramari, and Bhastrika Pranayama techniques.
  • Learn how to manage stress, depression, anger, fear, and various other mental illnesses.

Meditation, also known as ‘Yoga Sadhana’ is another limb of Yoga without which the purpose of Yoga remains incomplete. Connect with your inner-being and find your center through traditional meditation practices. Acquire the balance and control over your mind and body to skate through various life’s stresses. Train your mind and body to remain poised and mindful in the journey of life as a yogi and as a human being. Learn the following traditional techniques of Dhyana:

  • Antar Mouna (Detached Mindfulness of Thoughts)
  • Ajapa Japa, Hridyaksha Dharna (Heart Space Meditation)
  • Tratka (Candle Gazing) and Chidakasha Dharana (Yogic Visualization Technique)

Gain a deeper understanding of the human anatomy and learn how to correctly and safely perform the asanas without sustaining any injury through the application of the Yogic Anatomy and proper alignment techniques. During these classes, we shall cover:

  • Movement of Muscles, Joints and Bones in each asana
  • The Functionality of Respiratory, Circulatory, Nervous, Digestive and Endocrine System
